NAUSHERA: At least 14 people have been killed and several injured when a trawler has overturned at GT Road in Pabbi area of Naushera on Friday. According to police sources, a trawler was on its way to Rawalpindi from Peshawar when drive had lost the control over vehicle while trying to save a woman. Reports said that a car has been trapped under the trawler. Several people still trapped under the trawler . Police and rescue teams carrying out rescue operations at the scene. KARACHI: Following the target killing of an activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Lyari area here, this sprawling old city area and its surroundings shivered in tension, as the shops and other business centers hurriedly pulling down shutters remained closed. Some unknown persons had shot dead an MQM activist, Aijaz Quraishi yesterday night at Chakiwara area of Lyari here. KARACHI: Justice Binyamin of Sind High Court has concluded hearing of arguments on petition of Asif Zardari seeking quashment of container case against him and reserved his judgment till a date to be announced later. Same judge partly heard arguments on a similar petition filed by co-accused Wajid Shamsul Hassan, the then High Commissioner in UK and fixed May 13 for further arguments. ISLAMABAD: Federal Law Minster Farooq A Naik has expressed clear doubts over the restoration of the deposed judges on the May 12th deadline. Addressing the media outside the parliament house, Naik said that a joint session of the parliament could be convened for the restoration of judges on May 12th but he felt it was unlikely. He said differences prevailed between members of the committee over the mode in which the judges are to be restored. Naik added that the matter was now in the hands of the leaders of the coalition as the committee has finalized its proposals and handed them over. With regards to differences expressed by Hafeez Pirzada and Aitzaz Ahsan, Naik said Hafeez Pirzada was yet to come up with a written proposal while Aitzaz Ihsan has already submitted his proposals in writing. Naek also said that if the PCO judges are to be retained a separate bill would be introduced in parliament for increasing the number of Supreme Court judges. ... more
