LONDON: Asif Ali Zardari is set to hold key talks with coalition counterpart Nawaz Sharif in London today in a meeting where both leaders will review the report submitted by the judicial committee. The London summit will also play host to other members of the PPP and PML-N leadership including Shahbaz Sharif , federal minister for petroleum, Khwaja Asif and Interior Advisor, Rehman Malik... The two parties continue to be separated by key differences. PML-N leadership suggests that May 12 is in fact the new deadline for restoration of the judges, while the PPP is discouraging such an interpretation. The judicial committee was not able to reach at concrete agreement on the mode of restoring the judges and the two parties are believed to still not have reached an final agreement on the issue either. SWAT: A policeman has been killed and two others injured after an early morning blast rocked the Kabal area of Swat while security personnel conducted search operations for militants in the area. According to reports, the explosion was a remote-controlled bomb detonated by militants. After the blast, policemen and militants exchanged gun fire but no casualties were reported. After days of escalating violence, policemen surrounded the Kabal area and began to conduct search operations. During the operation so far, at least 14 people have been apprehended from 3 villages while an indefinite curfew has once again been imposed in all of Kabal. Tension prevails in all of Swat Valley due to the last week of intensified violence. ... more

BANNU: A boundary wall of the girls’ college caved in by the thud of the explosion occurring at Kaki area here, however, no loss of life took place. Sources said that some unknown persons had planted explosives by the side of the boundary wall of girls’ college at kaki area here, which later blew up with a big bang severely damaging the wall, however, no loss of life occurred. LAHORE: Central leader of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Javed Hashmi Thursday said that if judges not restored by May 12, the parliament would not survive even five months. Addressing Lahore Bar Hashmi hoped that the deposed judges will be restored by May 12, if not, he would go to the people. The people had given verdict on February 18, for restoration of judges and 1973 constitution but no progress has yet been made in this respect, he said. If the parliament failed to respect the people’s mandate it would not survive for five months, Hashmi maintained. “A courageous ‘no’ on March 09, 2007, changed the history of the country,” he said. ISLAMABAD: Co-chairman of Pakistan People’s Party Asif Ali Zardari Thursday left for London to hold talks with Mian Nawaz Sharif on judges’ issue. Asif Ali Zardari, accompanied by sister Azra Pechoho and federal advisor for interior Rehman Malik, left for London from Islamabad in a British Airways flight. The PPP leader will also meet with MQM Quaid Altaf Hussain in London and pass some time with his son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, said Jameel Soomro, a spokesman of Zardari House. KALAT: Five FC men were killed and 12 others injured when vehicles of Frontier Corps and FWO collided here in district Kalat in Balochistan on Thursday. Three FC men died on the spot after the fatal accident while fourteen were injured. The wounded were shifted to hospital where two persons succumbed to their injuries, increasing the death toll to 5. KARACHI: Judges restoration committee member Abdul Hafiz Pirzada has said he and Chaudhery Aitzaz Ahsan did not endorse the draft of the resolution. He said Farooq H. Naik also made it clear after yesterday’s meeting. He said Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari were apprised of the development since no progress was in sight. Pirzada quoted Aitzaz as saying that only an executive order was required to reinstate deposed judges. He said resolution had to be presented today to finalize modalities for its implementation but meeting could not be held because the draft had already been sent to PPP and PML-N leaders. Both parties agreed in Dubai in case of any deadlock, party heads would be consulted to reach consensus. Abdul Hafiz Pirzada said he differed with Chaudhery Aitzaz Ahsan in the meeting. Asif Zardari said that he would also meet MQM chief Altaf Hussain in London. After arriving at terminal 4 of the Heathrow Airport in London at 4-00 pm local time, Asif Zardari while talking with Geo News said that he would meet MQM quaid Altaf Hussain.
