
DELHI: Chennai Super Kings pulled off a dramatic last-ball win, shocking Delhi Daredevils by four wickets in the 28th Twenty20 match of the Indian Premier League on Thursday.
Needing 15 runs in the final over, they achieved their fifth IPL victory off the last ball from off-spinner Shoaib Malik here at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground.
The architects of this victory were their openers, Stephen Fleming (44) and Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan (40) who laid the foundation with a solid 62 runs opening stand.
Later, captain Mahindra Singh Dhoni (33) and Albie Morkel (30) paved the way for the victory.
Pradeep Sangwan (2-29) and Yo Mahesh (2-40) were the main wicket-takers from the Delhi Daredevils while fast bowler Mohammad Asif took one wicket.
Earlier, after the Chennai Super Kings won the toss and put the Delhi Daredevils into batting a brilliant 121-run third wicket partnership by opener Gautam Gambhir and Sikhar Dhawan helped Delhi Daredevils to score 187 for five in the allotted 20 overs.
Gambhir made 80 runs off 49 balls with eleven fours and one six while Dhawan scored 59 off 46 balls with six fours and two sixes.
From Chennai Super Kings, Albie Morkel and Laxmipathy Balaji each claimed two wickets for 35 runs while Manpreet Gony took one wicket for 36 runs.
The Chennai Super Kings have earlier lost three consecutive matches after a blistering start in the tournament while Delhi Daredevils have the winning momentum going for them.
Dhoni’s Super Kings took the field with an unchanged team, whereas, Manoj Tiwary has replaced Rajat Bhatia for Daredevils.
