Sindh sacks over 1,000 contractual employeesKARACHI: More than 140 officers from Grade 17 to Grade 22 who were appointed on contract by the previous regime after their retirement have been sacked.

The government also directed the departments concerned to terminate the services of more than 1,000 employees of Grade one to 16 who were appointed on contract during the last five years, as per the cabinet’s decision.

Officials told this correspondent on Tuesday that all the officers who were appointed on contract basis served on important positions and after their retirement they were appointed on contract on the recommendations of the competent authorities.

Those who would be go include ex-education minister and chairman Sindh Textbook Board Anita Ghulam Ali, DG T&T Lt-Col Shahid Qureshi, who the brother of spokesman for President Pervez Musharraf Rashid Qureshi, ex-commissioner Karachi Shafiqur Rehman Paracha and chairman CM Inspection Team M Raza.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah had directed the departments concerned to terminate the services of these officers. However, the administration is confused as to how these posts would be filled immediately as the government has no officers to replace the contract officers.

All these contract officers and employees would lose their jobs with effect from Wednesday, said the authorities concerned. According to the officials, the following officers have been fired: Chairman Charter Inspection and Valuation Committee Education Dr SM Qureshi working as Grade 22 officer on contract; Director General Disaster Management Authority Maj-Gen (retd) Khalid Naeem; Managing Director Sindh Civil Servants Housing Foundation Syed Faisal Saud; Shamsul Haq Memon, ex-secretary Forests; Chairman Sindh Services Tribunal Law Department Ghulam Nabi Soomro; consultant of Governor Sindh Yousuf Jamal and ex-secretary Aftab Qureshi.

These officers were appointed in Grade 21 on contract. Those officers appointed in Grade 20 were ex-commissioner Karachi and first DCO Karachi Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, who is working as Project Director Malir Development Authority, ex-secretary Mines and Minerals Abdul Hameed Akhund, DG Malir Development Authority Ameer Zada Kohati, Chairman CM Inspection Team Muhammad Raza, Secretary Planning and Development Yahya Waliullah, Member Technical Provincial Local Govt Commission Ahmed Ali Halipota, Consultant Services and General Administration Ameer Ali Behan, Secretary Law Ghulam Nabi Shah, Additional Secretary Fisheries Baz Muhammad Junejo, Brig (retd) Abdul Haq Memon of Planning and Development, M Nawaz Memon of Irrigation, MD Sindh Education Project Anita Ghulam Ali, MS Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences Dr Rahim Bux Bhatti, Chairman Board of Governors Sardar Ghulam Muhammad Maher, Medical College Sukkur Niaz Ahmed Dehar, Chairman Board of Governors Liaquat Medical Hospital Hyderabad Dr Hadi Bux Jatoi, MS Civil Hospital Karachi Dr Kalim Butt, Chairman Sindh Textbook Board Shamsuddin Solangi, Prof Ahmed Aslam Turk (Education Department), Member Sindh Services Tribunal Syed Hasan Shah Bukhari, Chief Operating Officer Labour Department Prof Fakharunnisa, Member SST M Salim Abbasi, Consultant Health Department Dr Khawar Mehdi, Chief Engineer Irrigation M Raza Khan, ex-secretary M Hashim Leghari, Chief Engineer Project Director Development for Police Nazir Ali Khawaja, CE Hyderabad Development Package Syed Sarfaraz Shah, Chairman Sindh Language Authority Abdul Qadir Junejo, Director Information Hyderabad Dur Muhammad Kamal, Consultant ex-CM Madad Ali Sindhi, DG T&T Lt-Col Shahid Qureshi, ADIG Karachi Manzoor Mughal, DSP Special Branch Noor Ahmed Pechoho and DSP Sukkur Ghulam Hussain Gul.

In Grade 19, those who will go include Member CM Inspection Team Syed Anzar Zaidi and Manzoor Awan, Additional Secretary S&GD Dhani Bux Memon and Mehtab Ahmed, Additional Secretary Land Utilisation BoR Abdul Qadir Memon, EDO Revenue Umerkot Shamsuddin Sanjarani, Ali Akbar Qureshi, Muhammad Ali Memon, M Siddiq Wohro, Sualeh Jumani, M Hashim Mughal, Col (retd) Munier Ahmed, M Younus Arain and Principal Apwa College Karachi Naseem Nighat Seema, Director Environment Maj (retd) Saghir Siddiqi, MD Sindh Seed Corporation Col (retd) M Usman, Murli Manuhar Gangaramani, Media Coordinator of ex-CM Badaruddin Shaikh, Rukunuddin Mirani and OSD Dr Badar Channa.

In Grade 18, Deputy Secretary Governor Secretariat M Riaz, DS Finance M Zamir Katpar, PS to CS Izhar Ahmed and others will go.
