KARACHI: Following the target killing of an activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Lyari area here, this sprawling old city area and its surroundings shivered in tension, as the shops and other business centers hurriedly pulling down shutters remained closed.

Some unknown persons had shot dead an MQM activist, Aijaz Quraishi yesterday night at Chakiwara area of Lyari here. Following the incident, the enraged crowd got the shops closed by resorting to aerial firing and the situation at Agra Taj Colony, Kalri and Chakiwari went tense, while the armed persons got the shops closed this morning at Kharadar and the police kept patrolling these areas for bringing the situation under control.
