
MINGORA: Fresh violence erupted in the restive Swat valley on Thursday after a brief lull, as a police station and a seminary were attacked, leaving two people, including a soldier dead. In a related incident a girls’ school was torched.
In the escalating violence, unidentified militants attacked Kabul police station with rockets at about 2 am. The security personnel returned the fire and the exchange continued for an hour that left a cop dead and another injured. The boundary wall of the police station was partially damaged in the militants’ attack.
In charge of the media centre, Major Abid, said the FC soldier killed in the attack was identified as Hawaldar Muhammad Buzarg, while the injured cop was Mohsin Ali. A student was also killed in another incident of violence when unidentified gunmen attacked Madrassa Jammia Haqqania, a religious school, early in the day in the Essar area of Buner district. Daggar police said the attack partially damaged the building of the Madrassa.
In the fresh wave of trouble, the militants torched the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Matta Tehsil in the wee hours of Thursday. Meanwhile, the militants started patrolling certain parts of the Matta tehsil.
They also warned the barbers not to shave beards of their clients and threatened the CD shops and cell phone ring tones installation shops to wrap up their business or face the consequences.
