PANAJI, India: The mother of a British girl murdered in the resort state of Goa has been summoned to give evidence to investigators after she said she knew the killer’s identity, police said on Friday.
Fiona MacKeown, whose 15-year-old daughter Scarlett Keeling was found dead on a Goa beach in February, told a British newspaper earlier this week that a powerful person was involved in the murder.
“I was approached by many people who told me this man’s name. It is common knowledge out there it seems. He is a powerful person with money,” MacKeown told The Guardian.
Goa police said MacKeown would be called to testify under oath.
“Fiona has made a statement that she knows the identity of Scarlett’s killer. Hence, we have summoned her to depose before investigating agencies,” police superintendent Bosco George told reporters in state capital Panaji.
