
LAHORE: The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) and Cleaner Production Institute (CPI) have signed a memorandum of understanding for conducting an energy audit of the textile processing industry.
According to the MoU, the SMEDA and CPI have agreed to jointly conduct energy audits in the processing sub-sector of textile under the Programme for Industrial Sustainable Development (PISD).
The energy audit is the first step of the project in which energy wastages and losses will be highlighted and recommendations for energy conservation along with process improvement will be given.
The MoU was signed by SMEDA Chief Executive Officer Shahid Rashid and CPI Managing Director Azher-uddin Khan.
The SMEDA and CPI have also agreed to conduct a series of dissemination workshops on the basis of success stories and training programmes to address the critical issues regarding energy conservation in textile processing.
The SMEDA and CPI have decided to promote industry-academia linkages to create awareness and prepare guidelines for energy conservation for building the capacity of faculty/university students related to the textile processing industry.
