KARACHI: Federal Minister for Sports Najmuddin Khan has taken notice of the sports bodies officials who are working inefficiently and has warned them to start working in the right direction or leave the office.
Talking to reporters here at Hockey Club of Pakistan, he said: “we have sent notices to the federations and associations like PBF (Pakistan Boxing Federation), which are being run inefficiently and asked them to produce results or quit.”
He added that the government will give its all out support to uplift the game of hockey. The annual grant for Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has been doubled from the previous figure of Rs. 2.5 million in this regard, Najmuddin said.
Newly appointed PHF Secretary Asif Bajwa said that Hockey Club of Pakistan is a national asset and it will not be returned. Cantonment Board has been demanding the possession of HCP ever since International Hockey Federation (FIH) declared it as being unfit to hold international events.
“A grant of 168 million rupees to HCP will uplift it and will make it capable of holding international events,” Asif said. He announced that in the junior and senior camps that will be conducted before Olympics there would be no change of players. The team for Beijing will be selected from the players already available.
