KARACHI: Pakistan easily defeated Bangladesh by ten wickets in just 19.4 overs in the last Super League match of the ninth Asia Cup here at the National Stadium, Karachi on Friday.
However, this was a consolation victory for hosts Pakistan as they could not reach the final. The titleholders Sri Lanka and India already qualified for the July 6 final while Bangladesh have lost all their Super League matches in the event.
Pakistan, in the one-sided match, achieved the easy target of 116 runs without losing any wicket.
Openers Salman Butt and Nasir Jamshed, both left-handed, batted at ease and scored comfortable fifties.
Butt made 56 off 62 balls with nine fours and Jamshed scored 52 off 56 balls with five fours and two sixes.
Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful tried five bowlers but all of them failed to put any pressure on the Pakistani openers.
Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and batted first but their batsmen could not resist against the accurate bowling from Pakistan seamers and spinners and they were all out for 115 runs in 38.2 overs.
This was the lowest total by any team in this tournament but the Asia Cup record also belongs to Bangladesh as they made 87, also against Pakistan, at Dhaka in 2000.
Abdul Rauf claimed three wickets for 24 runs while Iftikhar Anjum and off-spinner Saeed Ajmal grabbed two wickets each and Shoaib Malik and Sohail Tanvir took one wicket each.
Opener Tamim Iqbal was the top scorer for Bangladesh with 26 runs while four other batsmen also succeeded in entering into double figures.,
Pakistan dropped all-rounder Shahid Afridi and brought back their regular captain Shoaib Malik, who missed the last match due to dehydration.
Bangladesh remained unchanged from the line-up which lost to Sri Lanka on Monday.
