
ISLAMABAD: The government will counter the PML-Q’s 19-page white paper, which the main opposition party issued a few days ago on the first 100 days of the coalition government under the title “100 Days of Betrayal.”
Chairing a high-level meeting, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Saturday reviewed the compliance status of his government’s first 100-day agenda and directed the ministers to furnish details of the implementation of the agenda of their ministries concerned by Wednesday.
The government would now come out with a detailed report on its 100-day performance.
It was decided that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani would take the nation into confidence within the next few days, most probably by the end of the next week, with regard to his government’s 100 day performance.
Sources said the prime minister would address the nation after getting the performance reports of the ministries regarding the implementation of the agenda as was given to them.
The prime minister commented that his government had inherited the crisis of price hike from the previous government and was making all-out efforts to provide relief to the people.
He said that when his government took over, there was shortage of pulses, Atta and sugar in the market but due to the government policies all these items were available in the market now.
He said that according to the manifesto of the PPP and the vision of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, the government was committed to providing the basic necessities of life to the people at their doorsteps. He said the people of Pakistan voted for democratic and progressive forces in the February 18 elections and the government would live up to the expectations of the people. The prime minister also said despite the challenges, the government had taken numerous steps to provide food and energy security to every citizen in both short and long-term perspective in addition to restoring the confidence of investors.
He said that the government had also launched a conservation drive, including reduction in the PM House budget as well as of the secretariat by 40 per cent. He said the government had also taken steps to strengthen the democratic institutions in the country and to ensure the supremacy of parliament, independence of the judiciary and the freedom of media.
Federal Minister for Finance Naveed Qamar, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Farooq H Naik, Special Assistant to the PM on Social Sector Shahnaz Wazir Ali, the deputy chairman Planning Commission, the FBR chairman, the secretary interior, the secretary law and justice, the secretary information and the chairman Nadra also attended the meeting.
