KARACHI: Unless and until the racing committee of the Karachi Race Club put their house in order, just the sacking of the old and trusted staff will not help the club to come out of the current crisis.

As long as the selected group of people have the license to do what they want while rules and regulations are only applied on the left over owners, trainers and jockeys, nothing will improve. It need guts and a pair of clean hands to deal with the King’s men.

Handicapping and stiping is another area which needs urgent attention. Tight handicapping and good stiping is a prerequisite for competitive and clean racing. The committee must do something to improve the working of these two very important aspects of horse racing.

They should be given a free hand and full support to perform their duties honestly without any favour and fear.Another factor and the most important of them all, is protecting the genuine and just interest of the punters. They should see to it that punters get back their money’s worth as without their support no race club in the world can survive for very long.

Hoping against hope we turn to the day’s race card on Sunday (today) which is spread over seven events with the action starting at 1400 hours. Make Million stands head and shoulder above the rest in the opening event. In fact the opposition to Make Million is a disgrace to horse racing. Some of the horses may not even compete with donkeys in a fair race.

The second race is anybody’s pigeon with anything and everything is possible in the end result. The field is full of dark horses, including Again Of Arab, but if none of them bothers to steer, the bone of contention should be between Love Pakistan and Mixed Blessing.

In the third race Jaguar and New Ferrari have comparable claims, but we doubt if they will feel any comfortable in the presence of Sher Khan and Sweetie Pie. Both have done well in the past and have come way down in the weight scale.

Outstanding is the word for Bam Bamm in the fourth and Remy Martin in the race after; both have very little to beat in their respective actions. Bam Bamm should shine against Lucky Gem and Cash Deposit whereas Remy Martin has Dark Secret, Baby John and Speed Of Arab as its close rivals.

In the sixth race Styrde by Styrde is simply too good for anyone and everyone to see. But what can the handicapper or for that matter stipe do about it? We know their hands are light and they have no remedy for action like this. Then again, Closing Argument and Mannan Prince, the only form horses in the field, should fight for the winning glory.

In the last and main event of the day Bacaradi seems to have its hands full of problems. In the first place it will have to match the strides of Afroz-e-Jehan and Bharosa, the two form horses in the run, and the second be prepared for a last minute threat from the two giants that have been left in the field. They are Claim To Fame and The Victorious.
