ISLAMABAD: Sarah Mahboob beat Anushka Kapoor of India 6-2, 6-1 to march into the quarter-finals of ITF junior-ranking championships in Amman (Jordan) on Wednesday.
Sarah displayed full control over her serve, return and baseline rallies to outplay a stronger opponent, who has recently graduated from the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida.
The seventh seed, who defeated India’s Naruka Shilpa 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the previous round, was set to face another Indian third-seeded Ankita Raina in the last-eight round.
In her post-match comments, Sarah said: “I made it to the quarters by beating two quality players from India. I have justified my 7th seeding in the tournament. Now I have to see whether I can take it further.
“I have nothing to lose now. I will play my full game against Ankita. On paper she is
the favourite but I will do my best... rest is in the hands of Allah.”
Surprisingly, in doubles, Sarah and her Syrian partner Ranim lost in the pre-quarter-finals to Dinoff sisters from Austria 6-2, 6-2.
