
KARACHI: South Zone may have confirmed a place for themselves in the final of the 1st Women’s National Twenty20 Quadrangular Cricket Championship, as they defeated North Zone by six wickets in a fifth-round match, here at the Quaid-e-Azam Park in the Pakistan Steel Mills Township on Thursday.
In the other match played later in the day at the same venue, Central Zone Greens defeated table leaders Central Zone Blues by 14 runs. South Zone now have eight points from five matches and Central Zone Blues have only six.
Central Zone Greens have in fact gone ahead of the Blues on better run-rate. They too have a tally of six points.
Scores: North Zone 77-8 in 20 overs (Naila Nazir 23; Masooma Junaid 3-13, Sana Mir 2-9). South Zone 78-4 in 17.4 overs (Sana Mir 23). Player of the Match: Sana Mir.
Central Zone Greens 117-9 in 20 overs (Armaan Khan 30, Asmavia Iqbal 37; Marina Iqbal 2-30, Sabahat Rasheed 2-24). Central Zone Blues 103-8 in 20 overs (Marina Iqbal 20, Almas Akram 33; Asfa Batool 4-14, Sadia Yousuf 2-14). Player of the Match: Asfa Batool and Asmavia Iqbal (shared).
In the sixth and final round today (Friday), South Zone will play against Central Zone Greens while Central Zone Blues will meet North Zone, both at the Quaid-e-Azam Park. The final of the tournament will be played here at the National Stadium on Sunday, July 27.
