KARACHI: The International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) has decided to amend its constitution in order to model it on the Olympic Charter.
The Executive Board of the IBSF, that met in the Thailand’s capital Bangkok recently, agreed to present to the AGM a new Constitution to be voted on by the General Assembly at the World Championships in Austria in November.
“The agreement to present the proposed constitution to the IBSF AGM was one of the most important decisions taken in the Board meeting,” one of the officials of the IBSF was quoted as saying.
“This Constitution is entirely new and modelled on the Olympic Charter and will after its adoption by the IBSF AGM, give finally to the IBSF a legal framework in perfect harmony with the criteria required by the International Olympic Council (IOC),” he added.
It will in addition be protection to the IBSF, of its name and image, conduct a genuine anti-doping policy, which is now a cornerstone of modern sport. The member countries of the IBSF will have greater responsibility and become key participators in the promotion and development of our sport.
It is going to be a constitution that would permanently confirm the IBSF activity as a sport and not as a leisure game.
All members of the IBSF, including the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA), will soon be receiving the full text of the proposed constitution and they have been advised to forward their suggestions to improving it.
“The meeting in Bangkok on the sidelines of the 6 Reds tournament was an excellent opportunity to evaluate the preparations for the competitions, financial report and all matters relating to the administration and management of the Federation,” the IBSF official concluded.
