LONDON: Lightweight Amir Khan was knocked out inside a minute by Colombian Breidis Prescott on Saturday, ending the 2004 Olympic silver medallist’s unbeaten record in savage fashion.

Prescott felled Khan with a ferocious left hook inside 30 seconds and, although the 21-year-old wobbled back to his feet, the unbeaten Prescott ended the fight with a flurry of punches with the clock showing 51 seconds.

Khan, regarded by many as a future world champion since turning professional in 2004, is known for lightning punching speed and silky movement but doubts have been raised about his ability to take a big punch during an 18-fight winning streak.

The tall Prescott, who boasted 17 knockouts in a flawless 19-fight professional career, oozed confidence as the fighters made their way into the Manchester ring for the bout Khan was overwhelming favourite to win.

Straight from the bell he tore into Khan and connected with virtually every punch he threw in a devastating display.

Khan’s legs buckled after being clipped by the left hook and he looked in no state to continue despite being allowed to go on.

Colombian Prescott sank to his knees at the end before being proclaimed as the new WBO intercontinental lightweight champion.
