JERYSALEM: In a major setback to beleaguered Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, the Israeli police have recommended that he be indicted on multiple corruption charges and breach of trust.
The police on Sunday evening submitted a unanimous recommendation to Attorney General Menachem Mazuz urging him to prosecute Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in two corruption cases.
While, in a third case, that is known as 'The Investment Center affair', police is likely to reach on a decision soon.
The case revolves around allegations that Olmert granted personal favours to his old law partner, Uri Messer, who was acting on behalf of a company, an act that constitutes a conflict of interest, breach of trust and fraud.
The police claimed to have gathered enough evidences in both the cases to incriminate Olmert, who in any case is set to abdicate the Prime Ministership after the election of a new leader by his ruling Kadima party later this month.
