
PARIS: Olympique Marseille ended a five-week spell without a win when Mamadou Niang’s header clinched a 2-1 win over Caen in Ligue 1 on Saturday.
The hosts opened the scoring after two minutes with a 20-metre drive from France forward Hatem Ben Arfa. Steve Savidan levelled for Caen 17 minutes later after pouncing on a mis understanding between Marseille goal keeper Steve Mandanda and defender Ronald Zubar.
Girondins Bordeaux moved up to fifth, level with Le Mans on 14 points, as they bounced back from their Champions League defeat by AS Roma with a 2-1 triumph at Lorient. The home team took command in the 59th minute with a Michael Ciani goal but Brazilian midfielder Fernando scored twice in three minutes to earn Bordeaux all three points.
Nantes moved out of the relegation zone thanks to a 1-0 winat fellow promoted side Grenoble. The northern derby went Lille’s way as Jacques Abardonado’sown goal in the 69th minute was enough to beat Valenciennes 1-0.
