
LAHORE: Federal Law Minister Farooq H. Naek has said that President Asif Ali Zardari can take any decide regarding release of Indian spy Sarabjit Singh.
Taking to media persons at Kot Lakhpat jail here on Monday, Farooq Naek said that he met Sarabjit on the directive of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and President Asif Ali Zardari.
The federal minister said that he asked the jail authorities to provide details of Singh’s case, adding president can exercise his power to release any prisoner under article 45 of the constitution.
Naek added that steps would be taken for release of five women who were currently in prison over fine. He said new amendments were being introduced after which woman with property would also be eligible to offer guarantee.
“There is capacity of 40 thousands prisoners in Pakistan’s jails while more than 90 thousands have been kept in jail,” he said.Law minister also visited the cells where former premier Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and President Zardari were kept during detention. He announced to preserve these cells.
Earlier, District Session Judge Syed Nasir Ali Shah, IG Jail Mian Farooq Nazir and Mubashir Khan gave a briefing to law minister in jail.
