LONDON: Britain’s foreign secretary says European Union sanctions against Zimbabwe will be maintained until a new power-sharing government is in place. Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe has yet to reach a deal with opposition rivals on forming a Cabinet. British Foreign Secretary David Miliband says that optimism following the initial power-sharing deal is “fast evaporating.’’ Miliband says in a statement released on Monday that EU sanctions will not be lifted until Mugabe and the opposition agree on a new administration. He says he will discuss the issue with other EU foreign ministers next week.
