KARACHI: Seven races have been carded for the afternoon (Sunday) at the Karachi track, with Sayeen Jee staking its claim in the Twin Cup as the most eligible entry.
A small field of seven horses in Class V and VI, which is not much of a class in blood stock, will vie for this Cup, with Sayeen Jee, a title commonly used for a common Sindhi, catching the eye at first glance.
Already Sayeen Jee has established its credentials of being a speedy sprinter by winning in a lower division as it liked. Today it encounters very weak opposition led by Speed Of Arab and Savabeeel, the only two form horses in the run. We would be surprised if any of the two get up to extend Sayeen Jee, leave alone beating it.
The day’s proceedings start at 1330 hours, and in the very first race we expect Princess Zara to achieve the impossible against Walayat, a thoroughbred which has no business to be rotting here. Shan-e-Mir is a bad starter, but if it takes a level jump, it can cause a lot of problems for the fancied starter.
Marista is in for another quick win this afternoon. It stands out in the second race, and should shine against Qandhar and Princes Sparkle. Canon Ball is a dark horse in the field.
In the third, Halal Tob will have to show marked improvement, and that is not asking for too much, to qualify as a top contender against the in-form Invazer and Jadu Janter. Whosoever wins here, it will not have an easy time doing it.
Whirl Wind returns to action after winning its maiden race a long time back. If it repeats its old run Navaho’s Glory or for that matter any other will find it very difficult to face its challenge.
The same cannot be said about Sweetie Pie and stablemate Dilruba in the fifth race. They were surrounded by the likes of Die-Na-Might, Play Boy, Mr Mention Not and Leopard Of Arab, and considering this long line of potential rivals, nothing short of an immaculate performance can see them through to the winning post.
Any error of judgment in picking the right horse for the job, or any other lapse from the saddle can prove costly, if not irreparable.
After shouting home Sayeen Jee in the Cup event, another interesting rivalry will be witnessed in the last race, where Taizper and Blossom will go all out for the best position on the podium. Both are back for conquests after finishing prominently on the board behind better horses.
