PESHAWAR: Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Saturday announced a major reshuffle in his cabinet after several days of speculations but observers believe the move would yield no result and instead increase problems for the government.
“In my opinion, changes made in the cabinet will not yield any result. It will further deteriorate the situation,” an observer Ahmad Saeedi told the Afghan Islamic Press in Kabul. Muhammad Hanif Atmar, who was the head of an organisation of Khalq Party, has now been appointed as interior affairs minister where several people of other groups are serving on some important posts. “It will be difficult for Atmar to work with them or easily remove them from their jobs. This situation will create a new crisis and problems in the interior ministry,” Ahmad Saeed added. “Hanif Atmar had appointed his blue-eyed people on key posts in the education ministry. So it will also be difficult for Ghulam Farooq to work there or remove these people easily,” he said.
