Mugabe swears in vice-presidents
HARARE: Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has sworn in two vice-presidents ahead of talks on forming a cabinet, a government official said on Monday, a move that could endanger power-sharing negotiations. “The two vice-presidents were sworn in this morning because their positions are not in dispute,” a senior government official told Reuters. The opposition MDC expressed doubt that the ruling ZANU-PF would compromise in talks on forming a cabinet despite mediation by former South African President Thabo Mbeki.
Boy dies after being stuck in well for 90 hrs
LUCKNOW: A two-year-old boy trapped for nearly 90 hours down a 150-foot deep well in northern India died before army rescuers could reach him, a doctor said on Monday. The boy, Sonu Kumar, fell into the disused well last Thursday and got stuck at a depth of 70 feet, said Anil Kumar, the district magistrate. The rescue operation was made difficult because soft soil caved in several times while a tunnel was being dug to reach the boy, Kumar told The Associated Press.
