LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan on Wednesday said the government believed in the local bodies system, which is vital for the progress of the country.
He was responding to various supplementary queries during ‘Question Hour’ of the Punjab Assembly session, in which the house took up questions pertaining to Local Governments and Community Development.
Sanaullah said that a commission has been constituted to introduce changes in the local government system to improve its performance, which will be approved by the house after general discussion. Hassan Murtaza objected to recruitment on the posts of UC secretaries in Jhang district, observing that the ‘right’ persons were not selected for these posts and merit was totally ignored. He demanded formation of a house committee to probe the matter.
The members also objected to the absence of the Minister for Local Governments and Community Development, as the Law Minister Rana Sanaullah responded to their queries on his behalf. The house was told that Punjab Local Governments Minister was in Islamabad to attend a meeting.
