ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the elected government was working hard from day one to improve the living conditions of the people and days were not far when these efforts would yield result.

In a telephonic interview to a private TV channel, the foreign minister said that the government had succeeded to secure the IMF assistance to give oxygen to the trembling economy, which it inherited from the past and long term measures were being made to have stable and prosperous Pakistan.

He said that Monday’s session of Friends of Pakistan was a success because the participants were in realization of the significant role that the country was playing in the region. The international community was aware of the fact that Pakistan should seriously be assisted to face the challenges because it would be in the interest of entire world, he said.

Qureshi said that the Monday’s meeting of the FoP also identified the areas in which Pakistan needed assistance. Economic stability, poverty alleviation, security, energy and strengthening of the civil institution were some of the major areas where country needed the help of its friends, the minister said and added the mood of FoP meeting was very encouraging in this regard.

There was recognition during the meeting that a prosperous and stable Pakistan would be helpful for regional and global peace and stability, he said. He said the experts comprising the FoP countries would give their view point in this connection in the month of January next and the meeting of foreign ministers of these countries would be held in February.
