
ISLAMABAD: Food support program for vulnerable groups should be more targeted for the poorest of the poor, recommends a task force on food security.
The report further assess the impact of the price hike on vulnerable groups and the devise an action plan for promoting food security for the said groups, reveals the interim findings of the report summarized Task force on food security and made available with The News.
It also underscores the enhancing the existing delivery mechanism of Pakistan Baitul Maal (PBM) to be used for providing additional relief to 1.8 million households already in the program by increasing their food support entitlement from Rs250 per month to Rs1,000 per month.
The report on Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) should be further tightened by field verifications through various officials and unofficial organization while Punjab’s scheme should be applied more filters.
The filters used by NADRA for identification and verification should be made public knowledge in order to ensure transparency of the process, it added.
